Church History
Welcome to Touch Point Church Ministries
Pastor Obey and His Wife

A Historical Overview

Touch Point Church is a church that is “seeking opportunities to touch the home, community, and world with the love of Jesus Christ.” This is carried out by becoming an interdependent worship community that is excited about Christ and desires to see family, friends, and associates walk victoriously in Him.

The church was conceived when Pastor Nat received a vision from God to plant a new church in Prince George’s County Maryland. After consultation with First Lady Regina, his spiritual mentors, and much prayer, Pastor Nat contacted Dr. Dan Peterson at the Mideast Baptist Conference about church planting. It was recommended that Pastor and First Lady Obey attend the MBC sponsored Assessment Center and they were given the approval to plant a church.

A launch team was formed in July 2005 and the charter members were Pastor & Sister Obey, Earl Richmond, Darryl Davis, Derrick Battle, Tonya Edwards, Peggy Smallwood, and Joyce White. This group was later joined by Marlene Richmond, Shantese Battle, Karita Davis, and Jerry & Lisa Adams.

After the launch team completed the conception phase, it was decided to host pre-worship services to expose Touch Point Church to the community. The first series of services were held every Sunday 10:00 AM at the Days Inn Hotel 9023 Annapolis Road Lanham Maryland 20706 from January 9, 2006 through April 2, 2006. With each service, God began to show his favor among the Pastor and the people. One member donating musical equipment; another purchasing flowers to beautify the rented space. God began to bring in musicians and singers and a Praise Team was formed.

With God’s blessings, in just a few short months on April 9, 2006 (Palm Sunday) Touch Point was able to hold its Birthing Ceremony at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of the Washington Bible College 6511 Princess Garden Parkway Lanham, MD 20706. There were 189 persons in attendance. The sermon preached by Pastor Obey was entitled “A Hand Up, Not A Hand Out.” God truly blessed!

The first New Member’s class was held at Washington Bible College on May 13, 2006. The first baptism service was a joint service with Trinidad Baptist Church, 1611 Benning Road, Washington, DC. Four persons were baptized: Earl Richmond, Michele Petty, Angela Petty, and Antawn Petty.

As Touch Point continues in the growth phase, it has established the following ministries: Small Groups, Men’s Ministry, Women’s Ministry, Children’s Ministry, Information Ministry, Youth Ministry, Trustees, Director of Evangelism, Praise Team Coordinator, Young Adult and Singles Ministry, Musicians, Interpretive Praise Ministry, Set-up and Break-down, and Sound Technician.

On Sunday, January 7, 2007, the following church officers were installed as the first leaders of Touch Point Church: Marlene Richmond, Church Clerk; Earl Richmond & Peggy Smallwood, Trustees; Regina Obey, Director of Women’s Ministry; Peggy Smallwood, Director of Children’s Ministry; Derrick Battle, Director of Evangelism; Darryl Davis, Praise Team Coordinator.

On Sunday, January 14, 2007, the first ministers preached their initial sermon and were licensed: Derrick Battle & Darryl Davis.

On Friday, May 18, 2007, Touch Point Church Ministries was officially recognized as a member of the Mideast Baptist Conference (MBC).

We believe that the good work that is taking place within Touch Point Church Ministries is a testimony to the awesome power of God. We pray that God will continue to bless Touch Point Church Ministries, Pastor Nat Obey and Sister Regina Obey, and all Touch Point Church members and associate members so that we may continue to touch the lives of others with the love of Jesus Christ. It is our mission to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ at home, in our community, and the world so that people are converted, baptized, delivered, transformed and become productive citizens in the Kingdom of God.

As we continue to move forward into the New Year and beyond we will continue to seek God’s direction concerning building a church that is Christ-centered, Biblically sound and people friendly. Our desire is to “Build God’s Church God’s Way.
